Raku - Barbican Art Gallery London, Sept-Oct 1997

Studio Pottery 30

David Robert’s coiled, soft edged forms occupied quite a different realm. His hand-built Vessel and Pedestal was a kind of abstract slipper shape. Its grey and white lines built into the body gave this and other pieces, like tall Coil Built Vessel with Grey Lines, the appearance of having been formed out of some exotic sedimentary stone. In fact through the glass cases Roberts’ pots have the surfaces of sea-washed pebbles and must be just as satisfying the have and to hold.
